Bob Gariano founded Robert Gariano Associates in 2005. RGA is a nationally recognized search firm helping clients recruit board members and senior executives. For ten years previously, Bob was the Global Sector Leader for Russell Reynolds Associates.

Bob was with the General Electric Company from 1973 to 1988. At GE, he was General Manager of the $2.5 billion Lexan Division. Earlier, he ran GE’s Automotive Application Center, was country manager for GE Canada, and was Director of Strategic Planning for GE Europe. In 1988 Bob was recruited to Grainger as Group Vice President., where he built a $2 billion group of six industrial distribution businesses.

Bob serves on the board of directors of BFG Corporation and was previously on the board of Plextronics, Inc. He is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and the Board of Advisors for CMU’s Entrepreneurial Center. He was previously a Trustee for the Lake Forest Academy School, President of the Chicago Foundation for Education, and a member of the Lake Forest Caucus. He is also a Life Member of the National Black MBA Association.

Bob earned a B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University (1971), an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Isenberg School (1975), an M.L.A. from the University of Chicago (2001), and an M.S.E.E. with concentration in Information Technology from Northwestern University’s McCormick Graduate School of Engineering (2006). He has also completed post-graduate study in financial mathematics at the University of Chicago. Bob is certified (CPIM) by the American Production and Inventory Control Society and holds an EPA 608 Certification.


In 2007 Bob co-authored the book, Fundamental Talent, an analysis of the critical attributes for CEO candidates. A recognized expert on public company governance, Bob has published more than 70 articles about corporate governance, Board of Director activities, and independent director responsibilities.
