Bob Gariano founded Robert Gariano
Associates in 2005. RGA is a nationally recognized search firm helping clients recruit
board members and senior executives. For ten years previously, Bob was the Global
Sector Leader for Russell Reynolds Associates.
Bob was with the General Electric
Company from 1973 to 1988. At GE, he was General Manager of the $2.5 billion Lexan
Division. Earlier, he ran GE’s Automotive Application Center, was country
manager for GE Canada, and was Director of Strategic Planning for GE Europe. In
1988 Bob was recruited to Grainger as Group Vice President., where he built a
$2 billion group of six industrial distribution businesses.
Bob serves on the board of directors of
BFG Corporation and was previously on the board of Plextronics, Inc. He is a
member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and the Board of Advisors
for CMU’s Entrepreneurial Center. He was previously a Trustee for the Lake Forest
Academy School, President of the Chicago Foundation for Education, and a member
of the Lake Forest Caucus. He is also a Life Member of the National Black MBA
Association.
Bob earned a B.F.A. from Carnegie
Mellon University (1971), an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Isenberg
School (1975), an M.L.A. from the University of Chicago (2001), and an M.S.E.E.
with concentration in Information Technology from Northwestern University’s
McCormick Graduate School of Engineering (2006). He has also completed
post-graduate study in financial mathematics at the University of Chicago. Bob
is certified (CPIM) by the American Production and Inventory Control Society
and holds an EPA 608 Certification.
In 2007 Bob co-authored the book, Fundamental Talent, an
analysis of the critical attributes for CEO candidates. A recognized expert on
public company governance, Bob has published more than 70 articles about
corporate governance, Board of Director activities, and independent director responsibilities.

Joan Knowles Scholarship Foundation:
Bob Gariano and his wife, Linda, have provided a second major gift to Carnegie Mellon University to fund the Joan Knowles Scholarship Foundation. The fund provides scholarships to minority students studying engineering or technology at the undergraduate level at CMU. The scholarships are in memory of Mr. Gariano's mother who was an advocate of life long learning.
Joseph A. Kaule Memorial Scholarship Endowed By a Major Gift from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gariano
Lake Forest, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gariano have made a major gift to Lake Forest Graduate School of Management (LFGSM) to fund the Joseph A. Kaule Memorial Scholarship in honor of Mrs. Linda (nee Kaule) Gariano’s father, who encouraged her to be a life long learner. This fund provides scholarships to women who are currently working in the nursing profession and who are pursuing their graduate business degrees at Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
Currently a resident of Lake Forest, Illinois, Mrs. Gariano grew up in West View, Pennsylvania where her father was a prominent pharmacist. Mrs. Gariano is a registered nurse (RN) and she completed her MBA with highest honors in 2004 from the LFGSM. She works as an operating room nurse with Dr. Steven Bloch, the noted plastic surgeon, in his practice in Highland Park, Illinois.

A recognized authority on corporate governance, Mr. Gariano has authored more than 70 articles about boards in both public and private companies. He is co-author of the book, Fundamental Talent, a description of leadership traits for potential CEO candidates. He was previously Managing Director and Sector Executive at Russell Reynolds Associates where he also founded the Global Board of Directors and CEO practice. Prior to joining Russell Reynolds, Mr. Gariano was a Group Vice President at W.W. Grainger. Before Grainger, he was General Manager of the $2.5 billion Lexan Division of General Electric's Plastic Business Group. He is currently serves on he board of directors of BFG Corporation and previously served as an outside director on the board of Plextronics, Inc.
Mr. Gariano is President of the Chicago Foundation for Education, a non-profit foundation providing grants to inner city Chicago elementary schools and earlier was a trustee of Lake Forest Academy. He is a member of the advisory council for the Don Jones Center for Entrepreneurship. In addition to the Joseph A. Kaule Scholarship Fund, Mr. and Mrs. Gariano have funded a similar scholarship program, the Joan Knowles Memorial Scholarships, that provides grants and tuition assistance for minority undergraduate engineering and technology students at Carnegie Mellon University.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gariano have made a third major gift to Carnegie Mellon University for the Joan Knowles Memorial Scholarship in honor of Mr. Gariano’s mother, who encouraged him to be a life long learner. This fund provides scholarships to African-American, Hispanic, and Native American undergraduate students who qualify for financial aid at Carnegie Mellon and who wish to study in one of the technology or science disciplines.
Currently a resident of Lake Forest, Illinois, Mr. Gariano grew up on Pittsburgh’s North Side and attended David B. Oliver High School. He was a National Merit Scholar and attended CMU where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design in 1971. He went on to earn an M.B.A. in Finance and Strategy at the University of Massachusetts in 1975, an M.L.A. at the University of Chicago in 2001, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Information Technology, from Northwestern University in 2006.
